I would finally be in one of Utah\u2019s &#8220;mighty five&#8221; National Parks. I would be driving from Green River to Moab, and spend the majority of the day in Arches National Park.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 615px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/huangyizhou.nyc3.cdn.digitaloceanspaces.com\/202006\/D3\/IMG_202006D3_193135_HDR.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/huangyizhou.nyc3.cdn.digitaloceanspaces.com\/202006\/D3\/thumbnails\/IMG_202006D3_193135_HDR.jpg\" alt=\"Double Rainbow over Delicate Arch\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><\/br>Double Rainbow over Delicate Arch<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I chose to spend the previous night in the town of Green River, about an hour away from Moab, the gateway town to Arches and Canyonlands National Parks.<br \/>\nThe hotel I stayed in Green River was 44 dollar per night, taxes included and before hotels.com reward\/cashback. The minimum nightly rate for Moab was 100+ for the season. <span style=\"font-size: small;\">That is, I caught some hotels napping when Moab announced reopening dates for the national parks, and booked three nights for less than 200 dollars before they adjusted prices to proper levels.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"Floy\">Floy<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>After leaving Green River, I followed Interstate 70 to a place called &#8220;Floy&#8221;, which was the intersection of Interstate 70 with Old Highway 6&#038;50. There were some mesas not too far away to the North, so I thought it\u2019s a good spot to play around with my drone, since for the rest of the day national parks were no-drone zones.<\/p>\n<div Road<\/br><\/p>\n<div style=\"font-size: smaller;text-align: left\">Once off the interstate, US Route 191 fitted all the stereotypes of country roads in the heart of American deserts: long, straight, flat, and seemingly endless. It\u2019s probably a good opportunity for some meditation, if one didn\u2019t have to navigate among the traffic (which was quite considerable given the city of Moab had only recently opened up). I only started to run into these beautiful cliffs on the outskirt of Moab.<\/div>\n<p><\/p><\/div>\n<h3><span id=\"Arches_National_Park\">Arches National Park<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Finally, the star of the day. Arches National Park contains the highest density of natural arches in the world, with more than 2000 of them scattered across the park.<\/p>\n<p>Because of COVID, during the first few days of reopening Arches and Canyonlands National Parks waived entrance fees.<\/p>\n<h4><span id=\"Roadside_Turnouts\">Roadside Turnouts<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>I made a few stops along the way before reaching the Windows area.<\/p>\n<h5><span id=\"Moab_Fault\">Moab Fault<\/span><\/h5>\n<p>This one&#8217;s not too far from the entrance as the park road wound its way up the mountain. I just wasn\u2019t too sure about using &#8220;gossip&#8221;, a derogatory word, to name rocks. Over time, sand was covered by other layers of sediments, compressed and cemented into Navajo Sandstone. It&#8217;s so named because the two arches share the same stone as the foundation for their legs. One could also take a primitive trail (actually not primitive at all, compared with other trails I hiked in the park) to make a loop back to the parking lot. Some say it&#8217;s so named because the rocks were more like a castle compared with the Windows. So I decided to pay it a visit.<br \/>\nUnfortunately, there wasn\u2019t network coverage in the park, and I didn\u2019t prepare offline maps in advance. Under pressure, the less dense salt rose into a dome, partly dissolved, and then collapsed, creating this Salt Valley.<\/div>\n<p><\/p><\/div>\n<p>The area offered more of open hiking than established trails. If there are two or more drivers in the group I would highly recommend splitting the group and hiking this trail. The trail condition was probably the best in the park. He built a farm of more than 100 acres along Salt Wash. visiting in a most fortunate time, as some impending distant storm was leaving lots of water droplets in the air, creating a rainbow behind the arch.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 615px\" The storm that gave birth to the rainbows also moved our way, bringing gale and raindrops.
