2022年科罗拉多之行第八天，丹佛市区

我2022年科罗拉多之行的第八天也是最后一天。在把同行的小伙伴送到机场之后，我简单逛了一下丹佛市区，随后坐晚班飞机回了家。

终于到了我们科罗拉多之行的最后一天。前一天我们在落基山国家公园里玩了一整天，包括在熊湖区域的徒步和驾车游览 Trail Ridge Road，直到晚上快十点才回到酒店。所以这天早上我们睡了个懒觉，上午十点才从Longmont的酒店退房。同行的小伙伴搭乘下午一点的航班离开丹佛，于是我主动提出送他去机场。

送走他之后，直到我晚上的航班之前，我还有整个下午可以在丹佛自由活动。虽然我可以考虑去市区西边的山里转转，但这天天气很热，而且我穿得有点多。考虑到三天前我在红岩公园(Red Rocks Park and Amphitheater)被晒得不太愉快，所以今天我决定去丹佛艺术博物馆，毕竟室内可以吹空调。

这天是劳动节(Labor Day)前的星期天，丹佛市政中心公园(Civic Center Park)附近的街道可以免费停车。不过因为有活动举办，我在附近兜了二十分钟，最后才在五个街区外找到车位。停车的过程和停完车之后走过一些感觉治安堪忧街区的体验并不算愉快。

进馆后我发现丹佛艺术博物馆比我想象中大得多。我本以为它会以本地展品为主，没想到它有来自世界各地的丰富馆藏。

因为我两天前刚刚登顶了朗斯峰(Longs Peak)，所以我径直去了美国中西部绘画展区，找到了几幅描绘它的作品。

In the early 1870s, Anglo-lrish nobleman and big game sportsman Lord Dunraven visited Colorado. He found the hunting so good that he eventually commandeered thousands of acres of land around Estes Park. In 1876, Dunraven commissioned Bierstadt to create this painting of his favorite hunting ground. It hung in Adare Manor, Dunraven’s family seat in County Limerick, lreland, until the 1950s, when it came to Denver.

The artist here illustrates a story from ancient Rome. She has chosen to show us the moment when Papirius’s mother tries to persuade him to reveal a confidential discussion held in the Senate. His ability to resist his mother’s pleas and thus keep the Senate’s vow of silence earned him the respect of the senators and the surname “praetextatus,” Latin for “underage”. The toga praetexta was the garment, bordered in purple, worn by young Roman boys until puberty.

Vesuvius, the infamous volcano in Italy that destroyed Pompeii in 79 CE, began erupting again in the 1760s. William Marlow, along with many others, was there for the event, and his observations and sketches prepared him for this large oil painting. Marlow was well known for his views of famous landmarks and cities, and may have used a camera obscura to help him achieve accuracy in his scenes.
